We began printing t-shirts on a small Vastex press right out of community college in 1995 as hobby. My husband with is degree in Advertising and Graphic Design and me with my general education out of the way were looking for a creative outlet. And we definitely found it in screen printing. From there we went on to complete our undergraduate degrees, his in Visual Communications/Web Design and mine in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations all while raising two beautiful daughters, and working full-time jobs.

Being natives of western North Carolina we wanted to design quality shirts that focused on the colorful storytelling of the south and the mountains, as well as a way of life. Getting back to one’s roots and the history of where they came from is important and should not be lost in today’s world. Our goal is to show that philosophy on and with our shirts.

As time went on our love of printing t-shirts turned into more than just a creative outlet and instead a desire for a fulfilling career in the screen printing industry. In 2014, my husband was working full time printing and designing t-shirts and growing the business. By fall 2015, my husband was offered a lucrative job working for a large advertising agency as the Creative Director designing tap handles and branding for the beer and wine industry. So, I decided to leave my “day job” take over the business and turn my passion of screen printing into a full time career for myself.

Here at Rustic Roots we not only print our own designs but do custom printing for local businesses and organizations. It is these same local businesses that inspired me to focus my energies on being my own businesswoman and start this venture. I am lucky to live and be able to grow a company in an area focused on community and supporting local businesses.
